Now in its 7th season, Suburban Adventure Racing provides high-quality navigation activities for local youth groups and members of the community that want to come along too.

Modelled on the sports of orienteering and rogaining our activities were originally designed for children of scout age (ie 10-14). Over the years, we've noted that younger kids can benefit from spatial awareness training - and many of them 'get it' long before they reach scout age.

From our initial attendances of 15-18 people, the sport has now grown to regular attendances of 300 to 500 people.

Each Tuesday evening during the Victorian daylight saving period, we provide a one hour activity at which all are welcome.

We provide detailed colour maps that show the locations of 20 electronic controls that we've placed earlier in the day.

We fit you up with an electronic tag (an RFID tag) that can be used to activate each control. If required, we provide coaching to show you how to use the tag, how to read the map and how to use the map to travel from one point to another.

At the end of the event, we download your result into a computer and use this to produce an online report and results table later that evening.

We provide this service free of charge to local youth groups and children accompanied by an adult. 

Members of the local community also take part in the activity - and these folks pay a small joining fee ($5 to cover public liability insurance) and $2 event entry fee. Each entry fee paid by adults cover the printing cost for 8-9 kids.

It's a great way to lose weight, to get fit, to meet and socialise with other like-minded people or just to enjoy Melbourne's parks and gardens.
